(This is the story of a great man with the unlikely and most unfitting name of Coward (Sergeant Charles Coward R.A.). Coward was taken prisioner at the beginning of the war by the Germans and this is his account of his time in captivity. Unlike most books of this genre it is not the story of of the officer classes fighting the boredom of the Stalag by thinking up 'wizard pranks' to infuriate the Hun. It is more a story of what happened to the 'other ranks' made to work, sometimes in terrible conditions. The book was made into a film in the '50's starring Dirk Bogarde as Coward)
